Welcome to MicroEichler.com.

What started as an unused spot in the back yard turned into an idea to create multi-functional spaces that mesh perfectly with the Eichler aesthetic by using the same materials and construction techniques as the original homes, but ones that – clocking in at under 120square feet — require minimal involvement with your local building department*.

The MicroEichler can be built for far less than your typical modern backyard pre-fab shed and tailored to match perfectly with your existing home.

We'll start at the present and work our way back through a few of the steps along the way in building the prototype MicroEichler.

 

• DETAILS

Below are a few shots of the details of the MicroEichler prior to the installation of the front door. Working with the front-side open made it easy to get materials in/out of the space efficiently.

The construction details match our Eichler-built home perfectly... down to the stained tongue-and-groove ceiling, exposed beams and (pending) VCT flooring. Even the windows and window details match the existing home perfectly.

History: About the MicroEichler

HISTORY

The MicroEichler idea began as many things do — out of necessity and legacy.

Like many Eichler owners, the backyard of our 60 year old home came with its own "personality"... a few full-grown trees that would be a crime to tear out, some 70s-era concrete, way too many plants and a failing fence. Also, like many Eichler owners, we had big plans, but a small budget which meant changing the vibe completely was out of reach — we had to work with a bit of what we already had.
